What is GeekyJar?

Geekyjar is a jar full of user generated pics, gifs, videos, stories and much more. Geekyjar offers an open platform for gamers, developers, creators and other intellectual artists to share their creativity, development stories, skills, streaming or anything that they think is awesome. The content on Geekyjar is primarily focused on topics related to gaming -may it be directly or indirectly. The nature of this content might be funny, serious, offensive, or anywhere in between.

 

Why should I create an account?

GeekyJar accounts are free and let you save all of your uploaded content to one easy-to-find place. It’s not just your another social media – your account is your presentation. Gamers can share their streams, Developers can share their devlog , artist can showcase their art, other users can use it as a regular social media platform – Let’s just say there’s a piece for everyone.

 

What are “Hot”, “Trending” and “Fresh”?

“Hot”, “Trending” and “Fresh” are the sorting system of posts on GeekyJar.

  • “Hot” is what’s been getting a lot of upvotes / comments / shares / views recently.
  • “Trending” is what is starting to get some upvotes / comments / shares / views right now.
  • “Fresh” sorts post by the time of upload with the newest on top.

Our popularity ranking is constituted by a combination of the following factors:

  1. Content appropriateness — please refer to GeekyJar Rules
  2. Post engagement — the number of upvotes/comments/shares/views a post receives
  3. Timely factors (posts that are timely or those with receives better engagement within a short period of time)

 

What are “Upvote” and “Downvote”?

On a post: Upvote means “I appreciate this,” but it may not necessarily equal to “I agree with this.” Downvote means “I found this boring,” but not it may not necessarily equal “I disagree with this.”

On a comment: Upvote means “This is valuable for the discussion”, but it may not necessarily equal “I agree with this.” nor “I like this.” Downvote means “This is irrelevant for the discussion,” but it may not necessarily equal “I disagree with this.” nor “I don’t like this.”

 

Profile & Settings


How can I upload/change my profile & cover image?

Following are the steps to change profile image:

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. After reaching your profile page, Click on ‘Change Profile Photo’ or ‘Change Cover Image’ to upload/change your profile photo or cover image respectively.

 

How can I edit my username, social platform & bio?

Following are the steps to edit username, social platform & bio:

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. After reaching profile page, Click on ‘Edit’ to reach bio settings.
  4. Click on ‘Base’, ‘Social’ & ‘About’ to upload/edit username, social platform & bio.
  5. After editing, don’t forget to click ‘Save changes’.

 

How can I change my password?

Following are the steps to change password:

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Settings’ tab.
  3. After reaching settings page, Click on ‘General’.
  4. Choose the new password.
  5. After editing, don’t forget to click ‘Save changes’.

 

How to send private and public message? Where I could see messages I received?

Following are the steps to send private and public message:

  1. Go to the profile page of the user by clicking on the user’s profile image or name.
  2. Look at the right sidebar where it shows social platform, and rank of the user. Just below ‘Achievements’, the option to send  private and public message is available.

In order to see messages that you’ve received:

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. Click on the ‘‘ sitting just below the cover image. A menu will appear.
  4. Click on the ‘Messages’ tab to see pending messages.

 

How to send friend request? Where I could see list of my friends?

Following are the steps to send a friend request:

  1. Go to the profile page of the user by clicking on the user’s profile image or name.
  2. Look at the right sidebar where it shows social platform, and rank of the user. Just below ‘Achievements’, the option to add a friend  is available.

In order to see list of your friends and their activities :

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. Click on the ‘‘ sitting just below the cover image. A menu will appear.
  4. Click on the ‘Friends’ tab to see list of your friends.

 

I couldn’t log-in, Why?

  1. First, check if the credentials you are filling is correct.
  2. The other reason could be that your profile activity must have been breaking one of our community rules, leading our administrator to put temporary/permanent restrictions on your account. If you think this has been done by mistake, or you want to share your part of the story. You can try contacting the admin.

However, it is highly recommended that you read our site-wide rules first, and then take part in the community. 

 

Submitting Content


What type of content can i upload?

You can upload images, gifs, videos, listicles  and articles/stories. GeekyJar offers embedding feature to make your life easier if you want to share  images, gifs, and videos from other social media platforms.

 

How do I upload images, gifs, videos and articles/stories?

  1. Click on the green ‘UPLOAD’ button at top right corner.
  2. Choose type of content you want to upload.
  3. Give your post  ‘Title’, ‘Description’ , ‘Source’, ‘Category’ and ‘Tag’.
  4. Click on ‘Publish’ to forward your post for publishing. You can save draft of your post if you don’t want to publish it now.

Note : Don’t forget to source the post if you are sharing another’s work. Not giving credit to the original creator is considered as stealing in our terms and is strictly against our community rules.

 

Is uploading thumbnail necessary?

Thumbnail is the external look of your post. This is the first element of your post that a visitor will see and most visitors like to view the homepage of the site where . However, it is not necessary to upload the thumbnail if your post is already awesome enough to catch a viewer’s attention. Even if you do not upload it, your post’s primary media (i.e. image, gif or video) will be shown as the thumbnail.

 

I couldn’t find the ‘UPLOAD’ button on mobile, why?

You can find upload button on mobile by following steps:

  1. Click on the  burger menu button ‘‘ on top left corner
  2. A menu will appear
  3. Scroll down to the end of the menu. You can see the upload button there.

 

I couldn’t see my post in fresh section, why?

In order to stop the misuse of the platform, every user-submitted-content is first looked upon by moderator for approval. This has been done to make  sure that the post is following our submission guidelnes. Don’t worry, it usually take just 2-3 minutes to approve a post. In case the post is not approved, you will be notified via. private message. Feel free to ask anything to mods about your post.

 

Can I edit my post after publishing?

No, you can’t edit your post after publishing.

 

Reporting Content


What should I do if I see inappropriate content?

Somebody stole my content without my permission, how can i take it down?

If you see content that you believe is stolen and not properly credited, please report it, being sure to include the information below:

What is leaderboard? Why I’m not in it?

Leaderboard is a showcase of our users currently leading in the race of collecting ‘Points’. Points are the standard rewarding structure of GeekyJar for users. Why you are not in it? -Well, you got to earn your way up.

 

What are points? How can I earn it?

Points are the standard rewarding structure of GeekyJar given for interacting with the site. Users are awarded with badges and higher ranks as their stock of points reach predetermined milestones.The best way to gain points is to submit posts that other people find valuable and interesting. Also comment. Being on-topic, relevant, funny, interesting, or engaging are great ways to earn comment karma. Being insulting, rude, or abusive is not.  The more honestly you contribute to our community, the more points you will earn.  A detailed log of how your profile performed so far is available in ‘points history’ page of your profile.

In order to see your total collected points :

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. Your total points count is available at right sidebar (Look below the Total Posts: XX in the)

Where I could see badges i have earned?

In order to see your earned badges :

  1. Click on your profile logo on the top of the screen (sitting left on the upload button) to open the profile menu
  2. Click on the ‘Profile’ tab.
  3. Click on the ‘Achievement’ tab in the horizontal profile menu below the cover image.

 

How can I earn badges and rank higher?

You must earn points in order to earn badges and ranks. Points are the standard rewarding structure of GeekyJar given for interacting with the site. Users are awarded with badges and higher ranks as their stock of points reach predetermined milestones. You can earn points by posting regularly, exploring the site, commenting, upvoting, no. of upvotes/downvotes on your posts, and many more other ways. A detailed log of how your profile performed so far is available in ‘points history’ page of your profile.

 

Any benefit for achieving higher rank?

Your profile rank determines your reputation level on GeekyJar. It reflects how much a user has contributed to the  community. Profile with higher rank is more likely to get their content approved faster than the others. But that doesn’t mean they are free to do anything.
